Maidenhead U12Bs played in the 2007 Maidenhead RFC Tournament in a five team group. In their first match against Henley, Maidenhead played a little nervously making errors but managing not to concede a try against well known local opposition in the first half. In the second half Maidenhead continued where they had left off conceding a total of eight penalties but no tries. Patrick Bart finally broke the spell after Maidenhead camped on the Henley touch line by bursting through at the corner to score. Maidenhead 1 Henley 0 High Wycombe were next, scoring early when forwards went over the top of a ruck, giving away a penalty. Wycombe dominated the 1st half possession but Patrick Bart found a gap and ran away from Wycombe's backs to score a successful solo try. In the second half Maidenhead backs Patrick Bart, Captain Chris Hudson and Matt Price combined to take the ball through the Wycombe backs with a fine switch pass allowing Matt Price to ease smoothly over the line. Maidenhead 2 High Wycombe 1 By game three, Maidenhead had visibly relaxed, were concentrating well and were making few errors. Within seconds of the start they scored with Patrick Bart feeding ball to Matt Price again. The 2nd try came from Matt Price immediately. He almost managed to repeat this after Aylesbury restarted but was held up and failed to ground the ball over their touch line. In the second half, the forwards pushed Aylesbury back in a long maul before the ball was released allowing Chris Hudson to drive over the line. Maidenhead 3 Aylesbury 0. In the final B tournament game Maidenhead dominated possession against Battersea but were unable to score in the first seven minute half. In the second half after a minute or so of sustained pressure from Maidenhead Patrick Bart again did what he does well scoring after a display of fine quick passing by the backs. Maidenhead's final try was by Jordan Flynn driving a short distance over the line after the forwards had once again taken possession and territory. After a remarkable day where they conceded only one try, Maidenhead U12 Bs were the victorious winners of the B competition playing the best B team rugby their coaches can remember. Captain Chris Hudson also went on to play as an A team substitute in the U12 A team, helping Maidenhead As to win their final game against High Wycombe A and to come second in their group. |
