U10As continue winning form at Chippenham

28th October 2007

Maidenhead RFC U10 squads showed strength, commitment and power as they played at Chippenham RFC on Sunday in driving rain and windy conditions.

In a triangular fixture, Maids' U10 A squad faced As and Bs from Chippenham and an A squad from Swindon, and Maids' U10 Bs faced Chippenham Bs.

Maids' U10 A squad remain unbeaten so far this season and in their first match faced Swindon. A solid workman-like win for Maids, showing ambition in spreading the ball wide, based on a solid scrum that won every one (even Swindon's!). A planned switch move led to Maids' Scott Prince breaking through to score a try in the first half. In the second half, Ben Lawrence broke away from a maul to drive over and score a well deserved second try and secure the final match score of 10-0.

In the As second match they faced Chippenham As and Maids won this match a convincing 20-0. In the first half Scott Prince and Joel Greene demonstrated good passing and release to Will Lawrence for Will to score Maids' first try. This was quickly followed by Abigail Dow ripping the ball out and passing to Reggie Pay who performed and great, long run for his try. Scott Prince went on to demonstrate some great twisting and turning to drive forward and score a try before the end of the first half. In the second half both teams worked hard driving and defending, but Maids proved the stronger side with Scott Prince scoring his second try and the eventual match winner.

The Maids' U10 B squad also played against Chippenham U10 Bs and in difficult weather conditions worked hard with some strong tackling from Will Hogan and great runs from Tom Kynaston, and a try scored by Lawrence Hull. However, Chippenham proved to be the much stronger side on the day, winning the match 25-5.
