Maidenhead RFC U10 squads continued their winning streak this season with excellent wins at their home tournament held at Braywick Park on Sunday. Maids' U10As faced Henley, Aylesbury, Battersea and High Wycombe with a confident start beating Henley in the opening game of the U10 event. Maids demonstrated strong running and Henley pushed hard in the first half of the match. But, Maids defended well and achieved a half-time score of 5-0 with the try scored by Abigail Dow. The second half saw Maids' Joel Greene and Scott Prince putting in some excellent running and accurate tackling by all of the Maids' squad and particularly from Will Lawrence. After a closely fought match, Maids won 5-0. In their second match, Maids' U10As faced Aylesbury and again, demonstrated great control and power. Maids made good use of open space with strong running, and Aylesbury defended well but couldn't hold out against some nice passing along the line by Abigail Dow, Daniel Cutler and Scott Prince. At half time the score was 10-0 to Maids with tries from Abigail and Scott. In the second half, Maids sustained their controlled play and after a great set-up by Daniel Cutler, Scott Prince scored Maids' third try. Final Score was a win for Maids, 15-0. The third match of the tournament saw Maids' U10As face a very strong squad from Battersea Ironsides. Both squads showed both strong driving and defensive play, with excellent passing along the entire line by Maids in the first half, particularly from Shane McKenna and Christopher Cousins, and good defence on the wing from Julian Guy. A lot of great tackles and after a second half try from Joel Greene; the final score was 5-5. In the fourth and final match, Maids' U10As knew they had to beat their opponents, High Wycombe, to win the tournament. With sheer determination Maids scored an opening try by Abigail Dow, 10 seconds into the game. High Wycombe demonstrated great attacking play but this was countered well by Maids, particularly by Ben Lawrence and Shane McKenna. However, Wycombe managed an equaliser. Maids' Julian Guy did a crunching tackle to keep Wycombe away from the Maids' try line and with very open play and end-to-end action, Maids drove on and with brilliant passing from Will Lawrence this culminated into Maids' second try scored by Chris Cousins by the end of the first half. In the second half, both squads showed great driving play and Maids' Joel Greene and Will Lawrence demonstrated excellent defensive play, with a final score of 10-5 to Maidenhead. In the U10Bs tournament, Maidenhead U10s fielded two squads, the Lions and Tigers. In the opening match, Lions played the Tigers with a match played at a highly competitive standard. Both squads demonstrated good driving, particularly from Xavier Leadbetter and excellent running with tries scored by William Hogan, Kieran Evans and Will Doolan. The final score was 15-0 to the Tigers. In the Tigers other matches, their second match was against the eventual tournament winners from Cobham. The Tigers put in some great runs, particularly from Alex Thompson and Will Hogan. Great defending from all of the Tigers but the final score was 5-0 to Cobham. In their third match, Tigers played Henley with a convincing 10-0 victory with great tackles and runs, particularly from Lawrence Hull, and two tries from Will Doolan and Kieran Evans. In their fourth match, Tigers met High Wycombe and demonstrated outstanding strength with a convincing win of 25-0. Great support throughout the whole Tigers' squad, particularly James Millwater, and some great runs from Reggie Pay. Tigers try scorers were Reggie Pay, Daniel Henshaw, Alex Thompson and 2 from Will Doolan. In their fifth and final match, Tigers met Aylesbury, which was a tougher match with lots of tackling and driving from the Tigers and a great run from Ben Smith. The final score was 15-10 to the Tigers with tries scored by Reggie Pay and 2 from Kieran Evans. Maidenhead Tigers finished the U10B tournament as Runners-up to the winners, Cobham. The Maidenhead Lions enjoyed a good run in the U10B tournament, particularly as some of the players had only joined the club at the beginning of the season during September! Apart from opening the U10B tournament with a match against Maidenhead Tigers, the Lions also played Henley, Cobham, Wycombe and Aylesbury. In the match against Henley, Sam Hoxley put in a great run and Umar Marriott demonstrated some great tackling as well as saving a try. Xavier Leadbetter also put in some great runs and tackling but the eventual score was 5-0 to Henley. In their next match, Lions played tournament winners, Cobham, where the Lions tackled hard with great efforts by Umar Marriott, Adam Williams and Alastair Graham. Xavier Leadbetter scored a try for Lions, but the final score was 20-5 to Cobham. The Lions went on to play High Wycombe, which was a must closer match with both teams putting pressure on each other and good even play. The final score was draw, 15-15 and the Lions' try scorers were Tom Kynaston, Alastair Graham and Xavier Leadbetter. In their final match the Lions met Aylesbury. Following some good initial drives and both teams tackling and rucking well, Aylesbury managed to break free to score two tries and the final score was 10-0 to Aylesbury. Well done to all the Maidenhead U10 players who played this year: Abigail Dow, Adam Williams, Alastair Graham, Alexander Thompson, Ben Lawrence, Ben Smith, Christopher Cousins, Conor Dunne, Daniel Cutler, Daniel Henshaw, Jack Nicholls, Jake Redican, James Millwater, Joel Greene, Julian Guy, Kieran Evans, Lawrence Hull, Reggie Pay, Sam Hoxley, Samuel Holdsworth, Scott Prince, Shane McKenna, Thomas Judd, Tom Kynaston, Umar Marriott, William Doolan, William Hogan, William Lawrence and Xavier Leadbetter |
