Clean Sweep for the U9s Last Sunday saw the Maidenhead u9 squads visit Beaconsfield for a very successful morning. Both teams were depleted due to a clash with school tournaments, but that proved no hindrance to some great rugby. First up, Maidenhead As faced Beaconsfield As, with Maids starting off well with some great tackling and support play which resulted in an early try by William Lawrence. They held off a strong Beaconsfield team with some great defence work. Lawrence scored a second try with others provided by Scott Prince and Abigail Dow to finish with a 4 tries to 3 win. Maidenhead Bs proved far too strong for Beaconsfield Bs. Jonathan Matthews opened the scoring with a try in the first few minutes after some good passing by team members. This was followed by the first of a hat trick by Alastair Graham who was working hard in the mauls and in providing good support. The Maidenhead defence continually denied Beaconsfield. Sasha Gil made several great runs and provided a try for Ben Smith with a superb offload just before the try line before another great move that led to a try by Tom Kynaston to end with a 7 tries to 2 win. The next two matches were played with each of the A and B squads mixed up to form Lions and Tigers teams. Maidenhead Lions dominated with some great runs and superb tackling by William Lawrence and with Abigail Dow ripping the ball off the opposition. The Maids' defence was very strong and rarely let Beaconsfield through. Ben Smith broke through the Beaconsfield defence just to be put in touch at the last minute. Scott Prince and Kieran Evans put in some great runs with excellent finishing with Prince earning a hat trick and Evans a try to close the score with a 4 tries to 2 win. Maidenhead Tigers started with good rucking and mauling by Maidenhead and the first of a brace for Sasha Gil. Joel Greene made the first of his hat trick with some brilliant dodging through the Beaconsfield defence. Jonathan Mathews then scored with a great run from one end of the pitch to the other to be followed by a try from Ben Lawrence. The final score was 7 tries to 4 to Maidenhead. |
