U13s Bulls overcome local rivals Windsor

Maidenhead Bulls 24 – 22 Windsor B
Sunday 29th April 2007

Maidenhead U13 Bulls wrapped up their regular season with an exciting and close fought win over local rivals Windsor on Sunday.

As with many of their performances over the preceding months it was a mixed performance, with strong forward play alternately complemented by good running by the backs and then let down somewhat by some indifferent tackling.

Maids started brightly with an early score for Niall Collins, who has shone in his first season of rugby. “Veteran” George Thomas then added a second and it looked as if Maids might repeat the cricket score they ran up against Windsor in December. However, Windsor bounced back, with a strong running centre crossing for a hat trick.

Hooker Daniel Keir got a third for the Bulls, but despite 2 conversions by Iain Whiteford Windsor had scored again to hold a narrow 22-19 lead with only minutes to go. Earlier in the season the Bulls might have lost heart, but now they rose to the occasion, with the forwards surging from ruck to ruck, ever closer to the line. Windsor’s defence held strong, but eventually the pressure told and Ben Scolari burst through to seize the try and the win.

Final score: Maidenhead Bulls 24 – 22 Windsor B
