Maidenhead Bulls entertained Beaconsfield on a glorious Sunday morning at Braywick. The first half saw the Bulls playing with the wind at their backs and it wasn't long before they scored with both backs and forwards moving the ball through several phases of play before prop Jason Bates finally crashed over from a ruck close to the Beaconsfield try line. With the forwards starting to win quality ball, the backs started to make ground, especially Dhruv Surya, playing at centre, who made some excellent breaks through a startled Beaconsfield defence. One such break lead to Alex McCulloch receiving the ball close to the wing and he managed to outpace the covering defence and score under the posts. Third and final try of the half was scored by Dhruv Surya in the left hand corner. After the turnaround, the Bulls were given a sharp wake-up call that this game was not going to be easy without some hard work. Beaconsfield’s tallest player collected a loose ball on their 22m line and managed to evade numerous tackles before running the length of the pitch to score under the posts - try was duly converted. Much to their credit, the Bulls forwards rolled up their sleeves and against the wind, started to move the game back into Beaconsfield half. After some time camped on Beaconsfield 5m line, an attempted clearance kick was charged down by lively scrumhalf Shiv Khindria who also managed to beat other defenders to the ball and touch down for a try. Most of the game was now being played in the Beaconsfield half and some smart handling down the line with Max Ring jinking and weaving through the defence gave winger Niall Collins the opportunity to score in the corner. Final try of the game came after some effective driving play by the forwards with debutant Bryn Evans slipping under the defence to score from close range. Iain Whiteford made 3 conversions for a final result of Bulls 36 - Beaconsfield 7. It was a very entertaining game and all players contributed to a well deserved victory. Squad: |
