Maidenhead U13: 46 – 0 Reading U13

What a difference a fortnight makes! Bouncing back from their poor showing at Newbury, Maidenhead Under 13s blew their Reading opponents away in a first half barrage of unanswered tries.

With a rock-solid scrum including prop Blake Nicol making his debut for the A team, Maids backs were given a non-stop supply of quality ball and used their pace and some recently honed moves to score almost at will as Reading struggled to catch up. Daniel Andrews-Jones opened the scoring taking the outside line and simply using his pace. Sam Maguire slotted the conversion.

The forwards struck next with powerhouse Number 8 Markus Olivier running through several half-hearted tackles. A moment of panic hit the Maids coaches as their charges called a move inside their own 22, but it worked a dream and full back Sam Maguire hit the line at unstoppable pace to run the length of the pitch and leave himself an easy conversion.

Sam Balfour and his 2nd row partner Duncan Jones both got on the scoresheet next, Sam through power and determination, Duncan going back to his roots in the three-quarters to finish another running move.

Thomas Eckles rounded off the first half with a turbo charged run up the wing and Maids turned around 34-0 up.

Making a full 7 substitutions including the whole front row was a gamble, and inevitably caused something of a disruption, in addition to which Reading, to their great credit, came back with real determination in the 2nd half. The visitors never really threatened to score, however, and Daniel Andrews-Jones, having been denied one try for allegedly not grounding it, scored two more to make his hat-trick, the last of these converted by Sam Maguire once again to make the final score 46-0.
