Maidenhead U12s followed their excellent win over Staines last week with a triumphant victory over local rivals Beaconsfield winning 60-5 in a display of free-flowing and powerful rugby. Recent steps in the development of the squad saw 12 tries for a rampant team totally in control of the game from the first whistle. The strength of the squad was further shown in the way the B's pulled off a dramatic recovery to draw 20-20 in second match. Tries for Kerins (4), Balmer (2), Dutton, Pillai, Kiddell, Garius, Saunders and Horn meant Maids came from strong forward play added to by fine running lines from the backs. Paul Dutton Head Coach said, this was a marvellous display from the boys, the whole squad seems to move from strength to strength against a good Beaconsfield team. The liberal smattering of tries across the teams showed the total rugby commitment from the teams, with handling skills marking the try scorers out and many breakaways from the forwards led to ground being gained all over the field. Tries came from driving mauls; fast darting runs from the centres and powerful charges from second and back row forwards meant Maidenhead were unstoppable. Beaconsfield scored a consolation try in the second half on a crash ball but Maidenhead dominated throughout. The B's pulled off a dramatic comeback from a 10-5 deficit at half time to and 15-10 mid way through the second half to draw 20-20 at the final whistle. A strong pack performance led to ball being available but some mistakes in handling meant Maids could not capitalise on the on the possession. But the team showed exceptional spirit and we were rewarded for their never-say-die attitude. |
