U12s' good performance v Chippenham

22nd October 2006

Today we entertained Chippenham RFC - nothing like some west country opposition! Chippenham beat Maids in the Cleve tournament a year ago and so a rematch was on the cards.

And what a spectacle of free flowing rugby this was with the forwards and backs in both As and Bs linking well and showing the kind of spirit that Maids is famous for.

The forwards in particular were rucking and mauling well against a heavier and bigger pack and put that aggression and determination to good affect with a lot of possession and quick ball to a strong set of backs who attacked and defended excellently.

This really was an excellent performance with the team putting into effect the training in recent weeks and building on the great win at the Maids' Tournament. Tries from Cameron Foster and two from Colin Kerins secured the win but Chippenham were no push over with very strong scrummaging.

The B's also played exceptionally with better scrummaging than the A's and very quick ball and superb handling particularly under high balls this was brilliant resilience against a tough squad and running out winners was a fair result.

Lessons to learn very few to be honest this was such a good performance, perhaps running with two hands on the ball maybe or making sure runners always had support but that would be being picky!

With Saracen's tournament coming up this is a good omen.
