Maidenhead U11 A team played three matches at the Saracen’s tournament on Sunday in cool but fine weather conditions. The first game against Tring was held in the first half by steady tackling and strong scrummaging. Maidenhead turned up the pressure and got right up to the Tring try line twice, failing to finish. The final score was 0-0 In the second game against Saracen Fez Heads, Maidenhead opened the reckoning in the first half when Simon Graham burst through a Saracen lineout, going straight over the try line. Ruth Dow playing as winger took the ball up field through three players, linking to Graham via centre Owen Langstone for the second try. A few minutes later the same players created an almost identical try from a penalty. In the second half a rampant Maidenhead ran all over Saracens with further tries from Peter Watts, Owen Langstone Charlie Thomas and Simon Graham. The final score was Maidenhead 40 points, Saracens nil The final group match against Amersham and Chiltern was a finely balanced match that featured a tenacious Maidenhead defence against a strong team that ran the ball well finding overlaps against the Maidenhead defence. Amersham scored a try in the first half and two more in the second. The final score was Maidenhead nil, Amersham and Chiltern 20. This was enough to make Maids runners up in the group and a place in the plate final. Maidenhead won this by default as the opposition obviously scared went home early. |
