Sunday 21st October 2001
| The
Maidenhead U9s rapid improvement continued when
they sent a squad to the Marlow mini-festival on Sunday. Their first match was against Saracens. Maids started well with some strong running and passing with Morgan Davies going over the line to make it 1-0. There was some fine individual runs from Duncan Jones, Ben Pritchard and Sam Mccarthy, with the fiery Morgan Davies finishing off to make it 2-0. Saracens were a worthy opposition and they came back well in the second half, scoring 2 tries in quick succession. Maids then showed their developing character; with passes involving James Parrott, William Pritchard and Jamie Caddell, Paul Sayers went over to score the winning try. Next up were High Wycombe. Maids started well with some excellent play involving David Walker, Ben Pritchard and William Thompson. Maids were solid in defence and played the majority of the first half at the Wycombe end. Tries flowed from Morgan Davies(2), Ben Pritchard (2), David Walker and Paul Sayers. In the second half, Maids confidence rose even higher and they finished 7 0 winners to a very sporting High Wycombe side. Then came the Marlow Lions. Maids were very determined to put up a good show against their local rivals. Maids defensive play could not be faulted; Marlow were never allowed to get into a rhythm and after some flowing passes from Maids they found themselves 4-0 up at half time with tries from Morgan Davies, Ben Pritchard and William Thompson and Elliott Reed. Some solid tackling from Duncan Jones, Charlie Wickham Smith and James Parrott gave Marlow little chance. The second half Maids dominated with another 4 tries from Ben Pritchard (2) Morgan Davies and Duncan Jones. The final encounter was against a Barbarian side. With the tournament already won, Maids fielded a mixed side. There was some good attacking moves involving Tristian Cadden, Thomas Simpson & Jamie Caddell. David Walker was again solid in defence. In a close fought contest the Maids were just pipped 2-1 by the Barbarians. |
