On Sunday morning, in freezing conditions, Maidenhead U9’s were able to field 2 teams to each play against one team fielded by both Reading Abbey RFC and Swindon RFC. The ground was so hard at Reading Abbey RFC that it was not until 11am that a decision could be made to proceed with this 3-way fixture. Despite sustained pressure from the Maidenhead ‘A’ team, and against the run of play, they went down against Reading Abbey by 3 breakaway tries to nil. The second period was a great team effort played entirely in the Reading Abbey half. Unfortunately the A’s just couldn’t make a breakthrough, despite some penetrating running by Dan Blackwell. The ‘A’ team match against Swindon was won by two tries to nil scored by Tom Dobias and Tommy Roberts. Excellent running by Liam Haines and consistently good tackling by David James ground out a hard fought victory against some very large opposition. The Maidenhead ‘B’ team played impressively against both the ‘A’ teams from Reading Abbey and Swindon. Whilst winning neither match there was some great penetrating running by Oliver Newton and Ben Morris together with great tackling by James Cook. Impressively, they were able to notch up 4 tries against Reading Abbey scored by Ben Morris (x2) Alice Doolan and Jeremy Garrett. Teams; Maidenhead A - Tommy Roberts Ellie Rayer David James, Liam Haines, Matt Bourne, Jordan Davis, Dan Blackwell, Connor Stevens, Tom Dobias Maidenhead B - Matilda Swift, Rory Jenkins, Keegan Curlewis, Chris Morgan, Oliver Newton, Alice Doolan, Falco Swinfen-Wilkes, Ben Morris, James Cook, Jeremy Garrett |
