U9s' menagerie host Henley

Tigers' winning run ends, despite hat-trick
Lions make further progress

Sunday 12th February 2006

The Maidenhead RFC U9s "Tigers" and "Lions" teams hosted Henley RFC at Braywick on Sunday in appalling weather.

The cold, wet and miserable conditions failed to dampen the hard fought Tigers match which resulted in 8 tries. The stop-start game was dominated by successive rucks and mauls. The conditions precluded much free flowing rugby.

A hat-trick of tries from Daniel Morgan and an all round impressive display could not prevent the Tigers being defeated by 5 tries to 3.

Very physical play from Cameron Gray, Chris Gill, Matt Bourne and Tom Debaise was not enough to prevent the Tigers going into half time 1-4 down. The Tigers did not let the conditions or the half time score break their spirit though. They fought bravely in the second half against a well drilled and disciplined Henley team. They pulled back the score to 3-5 with a heroic team effort. Whilst the Tigers recent unbeaten run was ended there was much encouragement to be taken from this performance.

The Lions put in an impressive performance too although eventually losing their match

They came back well after going behind early on. Jeremy Garrett worked hard in the mauls and had some good runs. Tries came from Liam Haines, Luke Jordan and Jeremy Garrett.

A good all round team performance was helped by good organisation of the back line by Keegan Curlewis and some try saving tackles by Oliver Murphy.
