Freezing fog and talk of an explosion greeted the early risers who risked the black ice to be at High Wycombe RFC this Sunday for a three-way challenge with the hosts and Camberley RFC. Maidenhead were able to field 2 teams, the "Tigers" and the "Lions". The Tigers were denied a clean sweep of the opposition when a late triescored by Daniel Morgan against Camberley was disallowed. The Tigers were further penalised following some forceful protesting about the decision. In the end they had to settle for a draw following a superb individual try from Tommy Roberts. The Tigers match against High Wycombe was a close fought contest. Both sides played some brave rugby on the hard ground. Eventually the Tigers prevailed, winning by 3 tries to 2. The triescorers were Cameron Moffat, Connor Stevens and Tommy Roberts. In the Lions match against Camberley, the first half started nervously with both sides sharing the mistakes and the possession. Both teams were evenly matched. Camberley were soon ahead with a couple of breakaway tries. Maidenhead stuck at it and were rewarded with a surging forward movement finished off by very strong work from Matt Bourne to score. Soon after Chris Gill found himself in space and scored an excellent try despite injuring himself in the effort. The second half saw Maidenhead defending and they limited the Surrey outfit to just one score with fine triesaving tackles. Jordan Davis and Oliver Newton doing great things in defence. Strong running by Liam Haines Ben Morris and James Cook failed to swell the tally and it remained 3--2 to Camberley at the final whistle. The Lions drew their match with High Wycombe. Teams |
