U9s against Amersham & Chiltern

Tigers; Physically exhausting game ends in loss
Lions; fight hard against superior opposition

Sunday 5th March 2006

The Maidenhead RFC U9’s "Tigers" and "Lions" teams hosted an Amersham and Chiltern RFC team at Braywick this Sunday.

Despite Amersham having some powerful players, the Tigers held their own with some fierce tackling, particularly in the second half. However, despite retaining much of the possession and holding the territorial advantage for much of the match, they lost by 3 tries to nil.

The Tigers produced several outstanding runs from Jordan Davis, Chris Gill and Daniel Morgan. However they were unable to put successive phases of play together and convert this advantage into tries.

In what was a very physically exhausting game for the Tigers, Amersham’s power and organisation eventually took its toll. The 3 breakaway tries that won Amersham the game resulted from either stolen or spilled ball following periods of Tigers possession.

Amersham only fielded one team for this fixture, so the odds were stacked against the Lions who had to face a similar team to the one that beat the Tigers. To their credit the Lions remained positive throughout the match despite conceding several tries. Several penetrating runs by Luke Jordan and great tackling by Oliver Murphy contributed to an enjoyable game and gave the Lions some excellent experience upon which they can build.

The MRFC Under 9 "Tigers" and "Lions" teams play or train every Sunday at Braywick between 10.00 and 12.00, except when there is an occasional away fixture.

Teams:
"Tigers" - Tommy Roberts, David James, Daniel Morgan, Chris Gill, Tom Debiase, Jeremy Garrett, Ellie Rayer, Jordan Davis, Rory Jenkins
"Lions" - Cameron Moffat, James Cook, Luke Jordan, Oliver Murphy, Oliver Newton, Harry Hood, Falco Swinfen-Wilkes, Chris Morgan, Rhys Brooker.
