Sudden death in U9 final at the Marlow Tournament
Sunday 2nd April 2000
| MAIDENHEAD under nines were
looking to complete a hat-trick of tournament wins this
season at Marlow on Sunday. However it was not to be as
Maids lost in the final to an extra time try by the host
team. In their first match against Henley, Maids A team got off to a storming start by beating Henley 40-0 with seven players getting on the score sheet - Zak Thomas scored twice. Maids looked to be in magnificent form beating Beaconsfield 30-5 and then Aylesbury 30-0. Next up were London Irish who in past encounters had proved hard to beat. Graham Loveday soon had them on the defensive with his fearless tackling. The Irish only crossed the Maids line once in a hard game that was won 20-5. Ealing were dismissed 15-5 to see Maids through to the final. Marlow were the opposition and both teams were extremely hungry for the trophy, but it was Marlow with the home advantage who won out on the day. Being one try up, it seemed as though Maids would claim victory at half time. However with only seconds to go and with a massive final push Marlow equalised. In sudden death extra-time the first try to be scored would be decisive, and it went to Marlow. The B team competing in a separate
group, in their first game, defeated Amersham and
Chiltern 20-15 through tries for Ryan Wenbome (2), Elliot
Moore and Josh Radley. |
