U8s at the Marlow Tournament

Sunday 26th March 2006

Last Sunday saw the U8s have a fun day at the Marlow Tournament. With training this year primarily focusing on developing contact skills safely, tag skills were a little rusty and this showed on the day, however both teams finished a well placed third in their leagues.

The Lions started off with a good 5-4 win against Henley Hawks with two tries for Sasha Gill and one for James Millwater and Jonathan Mathews.

Confidence was dented with the Windsor match with a 5-7 loss but two great tries were scored by James Millwater and one each by Lawrence Hull and William Hogan. A good interception by William Hogan with good support work earned Kieran Evans a try too.

The match with Marlow ended with a 3 all draw with tries to Lawrence Hull, Alex and James Millwater.

The final match against Chobham was a ding dong battle ending in 5 tries each with Johnathan Mathews getting a brace and Sasha Gill, Lawrence Hull and Tom Kynaston also making the score sheet.

The Tigers got off to a slow start against Marlow but speeded up in the second half, going down 2 tries to 4 with the tries coming from Oliver Malik and Scott Prince.

Wasps were no match the Tigers with a 5 tries to 1 win with William Lawrence earning two and one each for Ben Lawrence, Liam Cook and Christopher Cousins. There was some great tagging and runs from the Tigers.

The next match was against Richmond but two tries from Scott Prince and one from Joel Greene were not enough to overcome some great passing and a robust defence from Richmond.

Finally Chobham's armour was a bit too tough for Tigers who played with great gusto but made too many basic mistakes. Super runs from William Lawrence earned a try with a pair from Joel Greene and also one from Julian Guy.
