U8s at Maidenhead Tournament 2000

U8 squad
U8 squad with their Fair Play trophy

This year Maidenhead fielded an ‘A’ and ‘B’ squad. The ‘A’ Team were made up of the Under 8 Group and the ‘B’s a mixture of Under 7’s and Under 8’s.

Both teams enjoyed a good day of Rugby. The ‘A’ team started well, just losing out to Hazlemere by one try. There was plenty of strong running from Jamie Kiddel , Ben Pritchard and William Thompson and good support and tackling from Duncan Jones and James Parrott.

Then they came up against a very stong Winchester side and their lack of experience as a team showed. However, they never gave up and it was a very creditable performance with good forward runs from Ben Pritchard, Sam MacCarthy and Henry Burns. Once again some good tackling from Duncan Jones, David Walker, Daniel Tydeman and Thomas Simpson kept the score down.

The boy’s best match was against Windsor. They had learnt from their previous games and now spread out and played and passed as a team. There were tries from Duncan Jones, James Parrott, Jamie Kiddel and Henry Burns who was the leading try scorer of the day.

Their last game against Ruislip was another close one with Ruislip just having the edge.

The boys rounded off their day by winning the fair play award and can be justly proud of themselves.

The under 8 squad are: -

Alex Bourdais , Henry Burns, Tristan Cadden, Duncan Jones , Jamie Kiddel, Edward Macpherson, Sam McCarthy, James Parrott, Alexander Prior, Ben Pritchard , Thomas Simpson, Kieran Smith, William Thompson, Daniel Tydeman, David Walker.

'A' Team: -
Maidenhead 20 Hazlemere 25
Maidenhead NIL Winchester 25
Maidenhead NIL Cleeve 20
Maidenhead 30 Windsor 15
Maidenhead 20 Ruislip 25

'B' Team:
There were limited matches for the ‘B’ team as a number of clubs were unable to field two sides. Therefore there are limited results for this event.

There was however, plenty of rugby for them as Maidenhead coaches who were organising the Under 8 group did a good job of making sure every boy had a few games. They also made up some ‘Barbarian sides’ and all the boys mixed and had a great deal of fun.

Maidenhead coaches Chris Pritchard and John McCarthy should be thanked for their excellent effort with this age group. We might even buy them a beer!.

‘B’ team Results.
Maidenhead 10 Winchester 10
Windsor 15 Maidenhead 5
