U8s perform well at Saracens' tournament

Sunday 6th November 2005

Maidenhead RFC U8s' A squad performed very well at the very wet, windy and boggy Saracens tournament on Sunday 6th November. Drawn in Pool B of the U8 competition, their first game was against a very strong team from Tring. In pouring rain this was a very tightly balanced game between both teams with excellent runs, tagging and support by all the players, Maidenhead scored 3 tries with 2 from William Lawrence and an excellent run down the line by Joel Greene to score the third, the eventual score was a 4 - 3 win to Tring, in game that should probably have ended in a draw.

In their second game, Maidenhead faced another strong team from tournament hosts, Saracens. Again the rain poured down and the ground was incredibly slippy which made tagging very difficult and the ball, very wet. Maidenhead put in some excellent runs from Joel Greene, Abigail Dow, Julian Guy and especially Scott Prince who scored a magnificent try. The eventual score was a 3 - 1 win by Saracens.

The Maidenhead squad were tired and wet but tucked into bacon sandwiches and hot dogs to prepare for their 3rd game. Raring to go, Maidenhead faced Amersham and Chiltern. The whole Maidenhead team played exceptionally well and bagged 5 tries with 2 from Julian Guy, then 3 more in quick succession scored by Scott Prince, Ben Lawrence and Joel Greene. The final score was a confident win by Maidenhead 5 - 2.

Then to the final game in the pool, where Maidenhead faced Harrow. The rain fell heavily again but Maidenhead were fired up for another win. This was an excellent game for both sides with great running, tagging and support. Maidenhead scored an outstanding 6 tries, with 2 excellent tries from William Doolan, followed by 2 try each for Christopher Cousins, Ben Lawrence, Scott Prince and Joel Greene. The final score was a win for Maidenhead 6 - 3.

Overall, we understand Maidenhead finished 3rd in their pool and 4th overall. Well done to all!
