Last Sunday saw Maidenhead Under 7s play host to Worcester Under 7s which was made a bit more challenging than usual as Easter events had made quite a dent in the usual Maidenhead squads. It proved to be a good fun filled morning with lots of loud friendly cheering on by the parents who were treated to a great set of matches. The Maidenhead Lions against Worcester Demons match proved to be a fast moving and exciting game with Maidenhead always managing to keep the lead and finishing 8 tries to 6. There was great team work and excellent moving around of the ball with Oliver McGregor, William Lawrence and Abigail Dow each bagging a brace and Scott Prince and Joel Greene one a piece. Next, the Maidenhead Lions pitted their skills against the Worcester Dragons. This was a cracker of a match. During the break between matches, the Lions seem to have had a bit of a siesta and quickly went down a couple of tries before waking up to the fact that there was a match on and they were playing against a good, strong team. Maidenhead then started to play with their usual fighting spirit, making up the lost ground and going in to half time with 4 tries each, and finally finishing the match with a close but well earned 7 tries to 6 win with William Lawrence getting a hat trick (as well as winning the Lions player of the week award), a brace each for Scott Prince and Abigail Dow. In the Maidenhead Tigers against Worcester Dragons match, the Tigers worked hard against a very strong Worcester team. After conceding several tries in the first half Maidenhead rallied and played well with lots of running. Great runs by Christopher Cousins and James Millwater and tagging by Sasha Gill and Johnathan Matthews rallied the team however eventually the match was conceded with 4 tries to 8. Johnathan Matthews scored two tries and with one each for Sasha Gill and Christopher Cousins. Next, Maidenhead Tigers battled against Worcester Demons. The Tigers team had settled down and was building on lessons learnt from the previous match, demonstrating some good team play and support work, and made some great breaks against a very strong Worcester defence. Excellent runs come from Sasha Gill and James Millwater. The match finished with honours even at 4 tries each with a brace for Sasha Gill and one each for James Millwater and Jonathan Matthews. |
