U7s visit Basingstoke

Sunday 5th February 2006

This Sunday the U7s' A and B teams visited Basingstoke RFU Club for a triangular match with Camberley RFU Club.

The children all turned up with their match heads on. From the very first whistle they all produced their best rugby to date. Having spoken to the other coaching staff and parents everyone agrees it was a fantastic display of teamwork.

With both teams going undefeated it came down to a final match between Maidenhead A and Maidenhead B to decide the winner. Both teams started the match with something to prove. The A team went two tries up. This sparked the B team to run in three unanswered tries. The A team responded with a third try just before half time. The second half started with some great defence by the A’s, forcing an error by the B team, in picking up a loose ball and running a fifth try. The B team kept their heads up and despite some great tagging by the A’s they ran in their fourth try, leaving them one try behind with time running out. An unforced error by the A team gave the B’s possession with seconds remaining to see a great solo effort by Tom running from his own try line to score their fifth try and drawing the match.

The scores were as follows.

Maidenhead A VS Basingstoke A 6 2
Maidenhead A VS Camberley A 6 3
Maidenhead A VS Camberley B 6 3
Maidenhead B VS Basingstoke A 7 2
Maidenhead B VS Camberley B 8 1
Maidenhead B VS Basingstoke B 5 1

It only remains for me to say congratulations to both teams in performing some of their best rugby to date.
