| MAIDENHEAD RFC under 16s ran out
convincing 35-10 winners at local rivals Marlow on
Sunday. Maidenhead kicked-off
and immediately won a scrum. Quick ball along the line
saw Hammond and Ansell punch holes in the Marlow defence
to set Guest away for the opening try, which Ward
converted.
Marlow responded immediately and their good forward play
and caused Maids to concede a penalty, which Marlow
kicked.
Maids then mounted a concerted 10-minute attack with
several flowing moves, which Marlow defended
magnificently. All Maids had to show for their possession
was a second Ward penalty.
Just before half-time Marlow broke back with a vengeance,
in a looping move from deep in their own half and they
were only just kept out by a magnificent Hammond tackle.
Maids won the subsequent lineout and immediately cleared
their lines, driving upfield for Ward's third penalty
kick and a 13-3 half-time lead.
Maids saved their best play for the second half. With
Guest dominating the lineout and their forwards
controlling the rucks and mauls, Maids scrumhalf Neill
was able to dictate play, launching a series of
penetrating attacks.
The first move of the half saw Hammond and Ansell break
through, swapping several passes before Ansell scored
Maids second try, which Ward converted.
Shortly afterwards, winger Bell burst infield like a
battering ram before setting Ward free.
The Maids centre drew two men and set up a try for
hooker Bowden who unusually was in close support. Ward
converted and followed up with a penalty when the next
move broke down.
Maids were unable to add to their tally before Marlow
broke clear down the wing for their only try of the game.
Maids closed out the game with a brilliant individual
try, Hammond running clean through Marlow's defence from
70 yards for Maids fourth try.
