U15s in fine form on western tour

16th - 17th March 2002

MAIDENHEAD under 15s came back undefeated from their tour to the West Country.

Three convincing wins against Chippenham (38-24), Midsomer Norton (24-0) and Keynsham (24-0) proved to be a fitting climax to a great season on the back of their recent county league victory.

In the first match against Chippenham, Maids were quickly into their game scoring with a Matt Wardle try. Chippenham fought hard but zealous tackling by Tom Robinson, Karl Kempton and Sean Burgess started to turn defence into attack.
Yet it was the home team who touched down next.
Winger Kempton was on the end of a good move to restore Maids' advantage and further tries from Andrew Beaumont and Jamie Plumer took full advantage of the good platform the forwards had established.

The second half saw a Chippenham three try rally, but the visitors held their nerve and tries from Burgess and Plumer put the game safe.

Against Midsomer Norton, Maids showed how strong they could be with a fine display of rucking, running by the backs, and good interplay between forwards and backs with every member of the team pulling their weight.

The final fixture against Keynsham was a very good game with Corcoran opening the scoring following a fierce drive.
Kempton soon extended the lead before one of the best phases of rugby of the tour. The whole team combined well to put Wardle over in the corner.
The second half was evenly contested with Maids' defensive qualities showing in a succession of hard tackles.

The final credits are to Wardle for converting eight out of 14 tries in wet and windy conditions and to the management for organising the successful trip.
