Price's late try is just not enough

Newbury U14’s 19pts v Maidenhead U14’s 10pts

Sunday 23th January 2000

MAIDENHEAD under 14s played their third league match against Newbury losing a very keenly contested encounter 19-10.

In the first half Maids competed well against a larger pack with Mark Devine winning a fair share of the lineout ball with notable support from Toby Sears and Liam Henwood to give the backs a number of opportunities that lacked a positive outcome. Mark O'Haire, Mike Etherington and Andrew MeEwan went close on a number of occasions.

Going into the second half 12 points down, Maids were awarded a penalty, quickly taken by Greg Edwards with a good passing movement involving all the backs to winger McEwan who was tackled short of the line. Good support running by full-back Daniel Riordan picked up the placed ball to score a well deserved try.
The second try came from Billy Price running under a Maids kick ahead and catching a high ball to beat the defence to score in the corner. But it was not enough.
