U14s host Redingensians in Berks League

Maidenhead U14s 0 v Redingensians U14s 36

Sunday 22nd January 2006

Maidenhead Under 14s were hosts to Redingensians at Braywick this weekend. The match had promised to be a good one and with both sides hungry for victory, the crowd hoped that this would be the case.

From the start Redingensians demonstrated why they had been so successful last season. Quick passing and strong powerful running were high on their game plan. They opened the score with a well constructed try through the centre of the field which was converted for a 7-0 lead. This try galvanised Maids who spent a large portion of the first half in Gensians territory but were unfortunately unable to convert the pressure to points. There was some stoic defence from Maids on Redingensians counter-attacks but Gensians added a further unconverted try before half-time by running round the Maids back line.

In the second half there was a renewed vigour in the Maidenhead squad but despite their constant pressure they could not penetrate the Redingensians defence.

Redingensians were quick to capitalise on any mistake and Maidenhead conceded 3 more tries in the latter half of the second period.

Redingensians were worthy 36-0 winners but Maidenhead can take some solace in the fact that their game is improving and that they are beginning to work as a team; surely victories will come in the near future.

After the league fixture, a Maidenhead team comprising the subs from the first match and the starters playing out of normal position played the Redingensians ‘B’ team. Maids played this game with a newfound freshness and despite tired legs, won by 2 unconverted tries to nil giving the coaches food for thought on some new possibilities for team selection.
