Late try is just Devine for U14s v Henley

Henley U14’s 17pts v Maidenhead U14’s 22pts

Sunday 12th December 1999

MAIDENHEAD under 14s travelled to Henley RFC to play a friendly match at the weekend and came away having won a very close encounter 22-17.

Maids started brightly and a typically strong run from Mark O'Haire helped him burst through Henley's defence to open the scoring.
Maids were pinned back for long periods and it is a credit to the forwards that they managed to hold Henley from scoring on numerous occasions.
A completely revamped back division for Maids created a couple of scoring opportunities but it was Henley who took a deserved 17-5 lead into the half-time interval.

In the second half Maids used some penetrative breaks from Alex Blake, who enjoyed good support from Liam Henwood, to drive the impressive Henley pack backwards.
Alex Hughes was able to break away from the mauls and set up some ruck ball which Maids' backs were able to use.
The pressure was building on Henley as Maids cut loose searching for the crucial winning try.

Their first effort saw Edward Petch held up just short of the line, then James O'Reilly thought he had scored but was called back for a forward pass and Mark O'Haire crossed the line but was judged to have put a foot in touch, before the inevitable winning try finally came when Mark Devine drove over the line.
