Maidenhead Under 14s put on an inspired performance against Guildford at Braywick this weekend. With many players missing due to County commitments the remaining squad stepped up to the mark and proved that teamwork is the key element in the game of rugby. Communication and support play were in abundance and Maidenhead quickly had points on the scoreboard. Dominic Hedouin opened the score after a powerful run down the left wing. This was swiftly followed by tries by Adam Rawlinson and Louis O’Byrne. The right boot of Thomas O’Brien was also in good form as he stretched the lead with some fine conversions. Guildford replied with tries from their swift centres but in truth Maidenhead always held the upper hand. At half the time the coaches asked for more of the same and that was exactly what the team provided. Adam Rawlinson was quick to pounce on any loose ball and his strength and speed saw him add further 4 tries to the total. At the final whistle Maidenhead had amassed 52 points against Guildford’s 19. The beauty of this game was that all of the decisions were made on the pitch. Lessons that had been learnt in training were carried out and moves that had been practiced came to fruition. The whole squad agreed that it was the team that won the day with every player making a notable individual contribution and playing for his team mates. Squad: Dominic Hedouin, Phil Roberts, Rowan Burnett, Oliver Peach, Arthur Kellman, Icarus Congdon, Will Cadden, Greg Manning, Chris Cameron, Thomas O’Brien, Vito Mrwa, Adam Rawlinson, Louis O’Byrne, Matt Todd, Patrick Boyd |
