Bracknell mud bath gives clean win for U14s

Bracknell U14s 0 v Maidenhead U14s 40

Sunday 11th March 2001

With part of the pitch muddy enough to make a hippo feel at home, the daunting prospect of the Bracknell heavyweights proved unfounded. Maidenhead were determined from the start to show who was in charge. Two minutes into the game and Matt Wardle had scored after a short pass near the line from Adrian Griffiths.

But there was to be no complacency, Bracknell fought hard and despite a formidable set of forwards kept the pressure on but just could not get through the consistent Maidenhead defence.

It was a full 15 minutes before Maidenhead scored again, touched down by Griffiths following a relentless push through from prop Kaz Jasnikowski. A neat move by Jamie Plumer intercepted a Bracknell pass only to be spun round by an opposition forward so he did not see wing David Geenen ready for another of his lightening streaks. Just before half time Alex Barnett seemed to think it was still Saturday football with a series of fly kicks up the right side, but again did not make it. The half time whistle went with the score 14-00 to the Braywick side.

Bracknell were a tough opposition but somehow gave Maids a chance to deliver what they had learnt in training. We saw some excellent runs with swift passing and consistent rucking and recycling which accounted for the resounding finishing score. The second half saw two tries by Carl Corcoran and one each by James Emmanuel and Alistair Venn brought the final score to 40-0. Matt Wardle was on fine form converting all but one try, many from the edge of the pitch. Maidenhead were able to make five substitutions and give the full squad a taste of the game without loosing momentum.
