U14s in convincing win at Bracknell

Bracknell U14s 14 v Maidenhead U14s 32
Sunday 6th March 2005

Maidenhead’s Under 14’s brought the confidence they had picked up from their last excellent performance against a very strong Cobham side into this league fixture against a powerful looking Bracknell team.

Within the first 20 minutes they had run in 4 tries and were leading 22-0.

In the opening few minutes the Maids’ three-quarters started a move from deep within their own half and Christophe Bart released Aaron Lambert to outpace the Bracknell cover for a trademark try. Fly-half Billy Evans added the conversion. Not long later, Billy scored an opportunistic try of his own, catching the Bracknell defence unawares.

From the resulting Bracknell restart, back row Cameron Anderson gathered the ball and ran it straight back for an unconverted try. Cameron was back to top form in this match and made several more powerful runs, being perhaps unlucky not to add to his try tally.

Maids added further to their score with a good three-quarters’ try finished off by Christophe Bart.

The game was very much one of Maidenhead’s backs versus Bracknell’s forwards. Aaron Lambert, James Henderson and Christophe Bart always looked to have the beating of their opposite numbers, but the pack were under pressure from a typically large and well drilled set of Bracknell forwards. Towards the end of the first half, Bracknell started to play to their strength and kept the b all with their forwards, eventually forcing their way over for a well deserved try, converted by their fly-half. The score at half-time was 22-7.

Having learnt their lesson, the Bracknell pack made sure that the second half was much closer. However, the Maids’ forwards responded well and prop Matt Powell burst through for a well deserved try. Matt had an excellent match, winning some good line out ball and leading by example in the rucks and mauls.

Bracknell responded with a try from another powerful forward drive, which was converted from a difficult angle.

However, just when the supporters were starting to worry about a Bracknell resurgence, the Maids’ backs resumed control, with some strong surging runs from centre and full-back. A well executed move, with the ball passing down the line, ended with winger Harry Harris squeezing over in the corner for a final unconverted try.
