Effingham U14s 22 pts v Maidenhead U14s 12 pts
Sunday 3rd October 1999
| Maidenhead U14s were away to
Effingham on Sunday and despite missing three key players
put up a good if not successful performance. Maidenhead kicked off and were quickly up rucking for the ball before a scrum was called which Effingham won. They broke free running half the pitch only to drop the ball before touching down. Effingham won the scrum 5 but good defending by Maidenhead allowed Alex Hughes to break free passing out to Seth Munn who was tackled. Effingham got the ball and kicked forward but Michael Etherington collected, taking the game up the field. The play went back and forward for some time until Alex Hughes broke free from a ruck and charged up half the pitch to score a well deserved try, which Daniel Riordan converted. Effingham fought back winning a line-out and kicking forward allowing their winger to score in the corner but they did riot convert allowing Maidenhead to retain the lead. There then followed a spell of even play with Maidenhead running the ball only to be stopped and Effingham kicking back up the pitch until Maidenhead won a scrum with the ball passed out to Ross Evans who crossed the line only to be tackled before he could touch down. Effingham started the second half winning a line-out and passing the ball across the field before scoring an unconverted try to take the lead with 10pts to 7. Maidenhead fought back with some fast and furious rugby until Greg Edwards got the ball on the wing and ran 3/4's of the pitch to score an unconverted try and regain the lead. Maidenhead kicked off into touch but a quick throw-in by Effingham allowed them to kick forward. Their quick winger made a lucky catch on the bounce and scored a converted try. Maidenhead kicked off, and having gained possession from a scrum, passed the ball out to Michael Etherington who was tackled over the line and prevented from scoring. Effingham's 22-meter kick found touch but a subsequent scrum was won by Effingham. They passed out to their winger to touch down and take the score to 22pts to 12. Maidenhead kicked off again and after winning the line-out were tackled into touch. Effingham won this line-out and kicked forward with Greg Edwards collecting the ball and taking it forward only to be tackled into touch on the final whistle. |
