Maidenhead v Redingensians
Maidenhead v Redingensians

Maidenhead U13s, afflicted by injury, entered two teams in the Chiltern 10-a-side tournament and gave a patchy performance in heavy conditions. It was a tough preparation for the team's attempts to defend it's title in the prestigious Brean Sands tournament over the holiday weekend, an event which draws the top teams from around the country. Maids choose two well-matched sides for the Chiltern event. Team I won through to a semi-final and team II also gave a good account of itself.

Maidenhead v Redingensians

Both teams defeated their counterparts from Redingensians, with the team I winning by 17-5, with tries by Luke Knowles (2) and Ryan Christian and a conversion by Alastair Bruce. Team II beat Redingensians by 25-5 with tries by Joe Thomas (3), Antony Lewis and Chris Parrott. Despite the comfortable victories, the alarm bells were ringing because Maids were disappointed not to have cashed in more fully on their superiority with tougher games lying ahead.

Team I then lost 20-0 to Beaconsfield, a well-deserved victory for the team which had been crushed by Maids in regular season play. The team recovered and went on to beat Windsor 25-0, with tries from Mitchell Batten, Jack Robinson, Patrick McSweeney before losing by 12-10 to Chiltern in a match in which Maids dominated territory and possession. Tom Kay and Luke Knowles scored the tries.

Team II battled back valiantly after losing by 30-10 (two tries by Thomas)  to St Albans' top team and after disposing of Chiltern by 20-5 then found that they had not done enough to qualify. Beaconsfield went on to win the event.

From Maidenhead's point of view, it was a useful form guide for the climax of their season at Brean Sands.
