U13s close game against Windsor

Maidenhead U13s v Windsor U13s
Sunday 28th November 2004

Well what a difference a week or two can make. Maids U13 squad put in a tremendous performance against Windsor playing their best rugby of the season by far. The performance warrants great promise for the future as Maids battled through a truly enthralling game to lose narrowly at the end of the match.

The forwards took Windsor on up front and despite early two early tries for Windsor the game looked to be set with Windsor very confident indeed. But a few minutes in rugby is a long time and the game began to unfold into an extremely entertaining encounter.

Maids broke back straight from the restart and followed it shortly after with another try and soon Windsor were reeling.

The game was hard fought throughout and right up to the final couple of minutes Maids were 2 points ahead; then disaster as Windsor charged in that killer blow.

What can we say, better forward performance and keener handling in the backs led to a great performance and renewed confidence in the squad. The decision making was better and the realisation that taking three points was a viable option led to a change in sentiment throughout the game.

Windsor suffered three withdrawals from the field through injury and whilst this was clearly a tough game it was fair and without any disputes; even the referee came in for hearty praise.

Maids needed this win, their confidence was low but this turning point for them showed what attention to detail and an extra session in front of the white board can do. Maids played firm aggressive intelligent rugby, as did Windsor, – and whilst the score went against Maids this time they can hold their head high after a startlingly good performance. It's always good to see a push over try too!

Well done Maids and Windsor junior rugby at its best.
