Phoenix Tournament

Maids took part in an special event on Tuesday 26th October playing at local Phoenix RFC against specially selected opponents as part of a tournament for visiting Vanersborg Rugbyklubb from Sweden.

Vanersborg are Swedish Champions and brought a strong team to compete in a mini celebration of international rugby. Maids didn’t quite know what to expect, the Swedes were billed as a very disciplined and talented team with strong forwards and speedy backs. Ranged against them was local representative clubs Redingensians, Phoenix and our U13s. Due to half term Maids had to borrow the occasional member of the Swedish Squad but this added to the festival attitude of the day.

The day was a round of games in a league tournament – but it rapidly became, can anyone beat these talented Swedes! Vanersborg eventually ran out winners beating Phoenix by 4 tries, Maids by 4 tries and Redingensians by 2 tries. Maidenhead also beat Phoenix by a try and Redingensians in a tough match by a try also the final league positions were :

1st Vanersborg RFC

2nd Maidenhead RFC

3rd Redingensians RFC

4th Phoenix RFC

Maids performed very strongly with flowing rugby and aggressive tackling overall…losing tries when they did to some break-aways a very good performance on a very enjoyable day.
