U13s showed a devastating mixture of power and skill in
putting a strong Wasps team to the sword at Braywick last
Sunday, continuing a run of crushing victories. Maids
scored 11 tries in all in a memorable 65-10 victory,
tearing into their opponents with three tries inside the
first five minutes and scoring consistently afterwards.
Maidenhead's defensive organisation was outstanding
despite the loss of some key players who were unavailable
and another feature was the excellent rucking of the
forwards, who dominated possession against a
bigger visiting pack. Some of the tries came from sheer running power, notably a hat-trick from Joe Thomas, the giant second row who often dragged two or three defenders over the line with him on the way to a hat-trick of tries. Thomas also showed improved dexterity to go with his sheer size. Luke Knowles and Tom Kay also scored a try each with typically unstoppable bursts. |

| On the other side of the coin there was delightful sleight of hand and foot involved in other tries. Tom Lewis, the wing with all the talents, scored two, one by finishing off a combined movement and the other from a 50 metre sprint after scrum-half Ollie Styles had cleverly attacked the blindside of a scrum in a pre-planned move. Ryan Christian scored what was probably the best of the individual tries, shredding the Wasps defence with a side-stepping run. Christian added a second try and Styles and Mitchell Batten also scored. Alastair Bruce kicked three conversions in the first half, despite a difficult wind, and after half-time, Tom Hocking was given the kicking duties and obliged with two more conversions, one beautifully-struck from a wide angle. | |||

| Wasps
were under pressure throughout but to their credit,
scored two tries in the second half from sweeping
movements of their own and they were denied a third only
by a superb tackle by Chris Lennox, the Maids wing, on
his opposite number. Maidenhead play Abbey at Abbey in
the Berkshire League this Sunday. The Maidenhead squad was: Drew Allen, Chris Lennox,Tom Lewis, Ryan Christian, Alasdair Bruce, Ollie Styles, Patrick McSweeney, Jack Robinson, Tom Plumer, Luke Knowles, Tom Kay, Andrew Jones, Tom Hocking, Scott Lowden, Anthony Lewis, Ashley Hanks, Joe Thomas, Mark Williams, Mitchell Batten |
