Windsor are castled after shut-out by U13s

Maidenhead U13s 27 v Windsor U13s 0

Sunday 12th December 1999

MAIDENHEAD under 13s have still not conceded a point in the Berkshire Junior Rugby League after another impressive display which saw them beat local rivals Windsor 27-0 at Braywick on Sunday.

It was Windsor who started with promise, putting together some useful attacks, and it was against the run of play when Maids made the most of a loose pass from the Windsor fly-half, as his opposite number Peter Neill kicked through.
The chasing group were quick to smother the Windsor full back, who conceded a penalty 15 metres from the try line by holding on to the ball, and from a quick tap Alex Barnett fed lock Carl Corocoran and he crashed over for the first try.

The opening score seemed to settle the home side with the pack securing the lion's share of possession, and the front row of James Emmanuel, Ed Wilding and Harrison Shire were particularly impressive.
Another dropped ball by the visitors was to prove costly as Maids ran in one of their best tries of the season, started by winger Greg Burgess.
He went on a mazy run and beat one player after other before being finally tackled, the ball came back to Neill, and he cleverly found Barnett who had run 50 yards to be in the right position at the right, time to score under the posts.

The second half saw Maids take complete control, with the forwards able to dominate through Grant Shearer, while both flanker Jamie Plumer and Tom McKeen never missed a tackle.
Maids’ No. 8 Adrian Griffiths showed his power, breaking with strong runs on a number of occasions, and this allowed more room for the backs.
Good tackles by both centres, Simon Standfast and Michael Rubber, resulted in another Windsor fumble, and it was the irrepressible Barnett who was on hand again to apply the finishing touch.

Soon Maids were on the ascendancy again, with inside centre Rubber cleverly dummying his opposite number and showing, good -strength to break another tackle.

He was stopped 15 metres from the line by a last gasp tackle from the Windsor full back, but skilfully laid the ball back to the on-hand scrum-half Bamett.
The ball was spun wide and full back Matthew Wardle arrived with perfect timing to take the ball at speed and race clear of the defence for a fine try.
The victory was complete when, from a set move at a scrum, Adrian Griffiths picked up and drove, and half-hearted tackles from Windsor allowed him to score under the posts, a try which Wardle converted to make it 27-0.
