U13s overcome Bracknell

Bracknell U13s 7 v Maidenhead U13s 34
Sunday 12th March 2006

The Under 13s continued their winning run in the Berkshire League with a convincing 34.7 victory away against Bracknell, despite being given a torrid time by the host’s formidable pack.

From the kick off, Bracknell made an impression as its pack drove hard to the Maids’ try line. But good defending prevented a try and Maids quickly settled and used the speed of their backs to dictate the pace. Thomas Simpson provided a good offload for Jasper Van Der Valk to score the first try. A powerful run on the wing allowed Van Der Valk to double Maids' advantage before another well-orchestrated move saw captain Ben Pritchard find space to break through the Bracknell defence and put Maids 15.0 up and half time.

Scrum Half Sam Yates scored a well-deserved try after the restart. Bracknell continued to pound at Maids’ defences and used their large pack to push over for a try and conversion. Maids showed their mettle by going straight back on the attack with Back Michael Habgood’s strong running adding a fifth try that was converted by Simpson. Bracknell’s defensive frailties were again exposed as Pritchard’s try and Simpson’s conversion made the final score 34.7.
