U13s’ winning habit against Reading Abbey

Reading Abbey U13s 5 v Maidenhead U13s 24

Maidenhead U13s made it three League wins in a row with another convincing away victory, this time against Reading Abbey on Sunday. The 24.5 scoreline reflected the boys first-half domination, when they took a 19.0 lead and spent long periods deep in their host’s half of the field. Excellent forward rucking and mauling and strong back running with many phases of play gave Maids the advantage.

In the first half, Maids captain Ben Pritchard scored twice, his second a classic move with great support play. Adam Roels picked up from the scrum, then after excellent rucking from James Parrott the ball was popped to Ryan Castle who released Pritchard to score. Jasper van der Valk added a third try with Thomas Simpson landing two of the conversions. Michael Habgood made a characteristic probing run from his own 22 to Abbey’s try line and was unlucky not to store.

Sam Yates had a great game as Flanker, as did Prop Connor Murphy and Paul Sayers at Scrum Half. The second half was a more even affair with a try apiece from both teams. Pritchard got on the scoresheet again for Maids. This was another excellent display by the boys, who showed great teamwork and support.
