Corcoran hat trick in U13s win at Leamington

Leamington Spa U13s 10 v Maidenhead U13s 47

Sunday 9th April 2000

MAIDENHEAD under 13s produced some fine rugby as they snubbed out plucky Leamington Spa in Warwickshire on Sunday morning.

Having suffered defeat against Crowborough on Saturday, Maids were looking to respond in style and this they achieved, scoring seven tries in a 47-10 victory, the highlight of which was a hat-trick for lock forward Carl Corcoran.

The first breakthrough was made after Tom Robinson had made a break in the centre and, with forwards Grant Shearer, Alex Barnett and James Emmanuel steaming through to join the ruck, Maids recycled the ball quickly through scrum half Peter Neill. Fly half Robert Morgan neatly found outside centre Matthew Wardle, and his clever pass allowed flying winger David Geneen to accelerate clear of the Leamington defence. Wardle converted and Maids had a 7-0 advantage.
Corcoran scored the first of three tries after a good break from Morgan and Geneen was on the score sheet again following good work from Adrian Griffiths, Ben Sedler and fullback David Standfast. Wardle was in fine kicking form and he duly converted both tries.
At 21-0, Maids were far from finished with their first half flurry and flanker Thurlough O'Connor showed amazing dexterity to prize the ball loose from a ruck and grounded it for a try.
Corcoran bagged his second try close to half-time with another powerful run and Kaz Jasnikowski was unlucky not to add his name to the try scorers' list following a superb run from the prop forward. When the half-time whistle blew, Maids were in a commanding position leading 33-0.

Leamington raised their game in the second half, scoring two excellent tries to break their duck, but in the end Maids were simply too strong. With a tap penalty from Neill, inside centre Michael Rubber's straight run set up good field position for the forwards once again and as the maul approached the Leamington line, prop forward Neils Pedersen was first to react, seizing the opportunity to pick up and dive over for a fine forward try.
Corcoran completed the scoring with his hat trick and Maids seventh try of the match with Daniel Fair converting both in difficult windy conditions.

The previous day the under 13s took on an impressive Crowborough touring side at Braywick and lost 33-10. The tries came from lock forward Adrian Griffiths and David Geneen.
