| MAIDENHEAD under 13s scored nine
tries as they crushed Salisbury 49-10 at Braywick on
Sunday, with lock forward Carl Corcoran bagging a
hat-trick to cap a fine performance. Maids were in charge from the first scrum as
hooker Grant Shearer struck the first of many takes
against the head, Salisbury could only kill the ball and
from one such penalty the ever alert Alex Barnett took a
quick tap, fed Corcoran, and he bulldozed his way over
from five yards.
Two minutes later Corcoran rampaged his way once again
through the frail Salisbury defence to score his team's
second try, with full-back Matthew Wardle converting to
make the score 12-0.
Maids continued to make progress though their forwards
with props James Emmanuel and Kaz Jasnikowski breaking
the gain line time after time, but it was Corcorans
second row partner Adrian Griffiths who was the next to
score after a scintillating run past three tackles.
Salisbury tried to rally and their persistence paid off
when their winger was able to dive over in the corner for
a well deserved try, but leading 17-5, Maids moved up a
gear and began to bring their backs into the game for the
first time.
Crisp passing gave both wingers Tom Robinson and Greg
Burgess opportunities, and eventually the constant
pressure paid off when Barnett fed inside centre Michael
Rubber, and he had timed his burst perfectly to dive over
for Maids' fourth try.
And the Braywick side added another on the stroke of
half-time when No. 8 Ben Sedler popped the ball to
Barnett, he accelerated past his would be tackler, and
laid an unselfish return pass back to Sedler to post a
27-5 half-time lead.
The second half started in similar
fashion with' Peter Neill and Simon Standfast
contributing in the centre with some nice runs, but it
was Griffiths who completed a solo effort in fine style.
Corcoran got his hat-trick soon after following a
flowing, move along the backs, when Robinson looked like
scoring in the corner only to be tackled close to the
line, and there was Corcoran to pick the ball up and dive
over.
Full-back Wardle wrapped up proceedings with two fine
tries, the first following a quick tap penalty from
Barnett, and the second after Neill had raced clear of a
tiring Salisbury defence.
The visitors did manage to get a
consolation try to make final score 49-10, but Maids ran
out convincing winners and can now look forward to their
Berkshire League clash with Newbury in two weeks time
with confidence high.
