A squad of Maidenhead under 12’s took part in the Marlow Mini Festival held last weekend.

Their opening game was against Drifters and Maids soon had the upper hand. Cadden and Hudson combined well with some swift passing and Hudson was released to open the score. From the restart Ansell gathered the ball cleanly and set off on a typically storming run. Drifters offered little resistance and Ansell was rewarded with a fine solo try. Edwards added a third try just before the half time whistle.

The second half saw Drifters fight back and it was a much more evenly contested game. Alderson showed good determination to score and at the final whistle Maids were worthy 20-0 winners.

Next up were old rivals Windsor and Maidenhead used their skill and speed to break down their defence. Quick ball play between Alderson, Cadden and Townsend proved decisive and Townsend drove over to score. In the second half Windsor slowed the pace of the game and sucked Maidenhead into a series of midfield scrums. After some scrappy play, close to Maids line, Windsor were awarded a dubious try and the score remained 5-5 at the full time whistle.

Ealing provided Maidenhead’s next opposition and the first 4 minutes of the game were closely contested. Gradually Ealing applied more pressure and drew first blood. At half time the score was 5-0. Ealing showed a strong determination in the second half knowing that Maids were their biggest threat in the group. Good discipline and well-worked moves saw Maidenhead concede 2 more tries in the second half and the final score finished 15-0 to Ealing.

In the last game of the group Aylesbury were determined not to get the Wooden Spoon and fought hard against a side eager to make amends for defeat in the previous game. Foster opened the score for Maids and then Edwards grabbed her second try of the day. In the second half Maidenhead increased the pressure and O’Connor and Townsend added to the score. The team started pull together some of the moves they had practised in training and worked the angles well to release Boyd to score the fifth try of the game. Maidenhead were worthy winners at 25-0.

In the Plate final Maids were pitched against Redingensians. It was an evenly contested game and neither side could penetrate the others defence. Strong determined play was the order of the day for both sides and the final result of 0-0 reflected the closeness of the game.
