U12s played fairly to win own Tournament
Maidenhead Tournament Sunday 14th October
|
The Maids enjoyed almost unrivalled success at their tournament last Sunday winning not only the cup but the fair play award as well. They first met Winchester, the eventual runners up when Paul Roberts scored an early try with a fast move from kick off. They continued to apply pressure with some strong tackles by Guy Sears and William Page justly rewarded by a try from Jason Merritt seconds before half time. Winchester retaliated with several forward moves from Robin Scanlon and Alex Hanks culminating in them scoring a try, which turned out to be the only one the Maids conceded all day. The Maids however fought back with a drive by Toby Harrison and Guy Sears setting up a try by Paul Roberts scoring for a second time. A strong performance with a final score of 15-5. The Maids went onto meet Cleve which started out quite evenly matched but the Maids soon came on the attack with a tremendous tackle by Christain Shepherd, play centered down near the Maidenhead try line but Cleeve defended well and it was some time before the Maids finally broke through with the only try of the game by Paul Roberts. In the second half although Cleeve came on the attack the Maids rose to the challange and showed their fighting spirit with some great scrum work from Toby Harrison, Guy Sears, Ryan Sherwin, Jason Merritt and Robin Scanlon. Both teams fought hard to score with some great tackles by Ryan sherwin but the score remained 5-0. In the third game they met Windsor where the Maids demonstrated some excellent team play and a fluid performance in which the ball was recycled with ease. Excellent start with the ball passing from Swadling to Sherwin and across to Page to score. From winning the scrum Robert Whittle passed to Swadling and swiftly out to Oliver Woodward to score in the corner and if we hadded missed that work we were entertained with a near repeat performance minutes later. George Colborn made several drives forward passing the ball out to Harrison and Jamie Ford and out to Luke Fletcher on the wing to score. Further tries came from Whittle, Swadling and Woodward bringing the final score to 50 -0 when the whistle blew. In their final game against Ruislip a drive over by the back brought an early try from Guy Sears which was quickly followed by a breakout from own half shipped down to the wing for a solo effort by Woodward to score. A further try immediately from the restart by Paul Roberts. A scissor move between Toby Harrison and George Colborn resulted in another try. Ruislip cam on the attack with a drive forward but Guy Swadling tackled and the Maids got control, the ball moved back down towards the Maidenhead try line with a ginking run by George Colborn to try. Ruislip again tried to fight back but the Maids defended well and Woodward scored twice more to finish on 35 -0. |
