U12s at the Saracens' Festival of Mini Rugby

Sunday 7th November 2004

The Under 12s battled hard at the Saracens' Festival of Mini Rugby on Sunday 7 November against a very strong line-up of teams from Harrow, Brentwood, Ruislip and the hosts.

The Under 12s found the going tough but acquitted themselves well, playing fast and open rugby, with debutants Alex Jones and Tom Bunn, performing heroically.

Harrow and Brentwood
The boys enjoyed a solid start against Harrow but couldn’t make early pressure through forceful attacking by back’s TJ Hudson and Sam Yates count. A late run by Paul Sayers was halted metres from the line, leaving the score 0.0.

Against a visibly larger Brentwood side, Maids defended to keep the opposition’s huge marauding pack at bay. Resolute tackling from forwards Tristan Cadden, James Parrott and Miguela Kerrins restricted Brentwood, the eventual finalists, to two tries.

Saracens and Ruislip
Maids nearly got the better of their hosts as they strung together flowing passes involving wing Oliver Evans and backs Alex Ridgeway and Morgan Davies. Saracens scored the only try late in the game.

With nothing to lose in the final match against Ruislip, the team surged forward with much greater cohesion. Captain, Ben Pritchard and Hudson breached their opponent’s defence but were frustrated as attacks faltered in the final third. Ruislip took a short-lived lead before a spectacular solo run half the length of the pitch from an unstoppable fullback Michael Habgood sealed a well-earned draw.
