U11Bs play with pride at Marlow Tournament

Sunday 10th April 2005

With the A’s training at Maidenhead and C’s playing at the Teddington Tournament. The B’s played like Lions at the Marlow Tournament, the day started with only ten players, four Marlow players stepped in to the breach as two Maids arrived at the last minute.

The first game against Marlow B’s proved to be a push over, with a group of strong forwards and some fast running backs, the game was dominated by Maidenhead. The two Marlow subs played in the second half.

Maidenhead 20 Marlow 5

The game against WASPS was great and saw the whole squad pull together

Maidenhead 10 WASPS 5

The Bath game was ours to win and we were 2 tries up at half time. Heads went down and tiredness set in.

Maidenhead 10 Bath 15

The Fourth game against local rivals Windsor was a hard fought battle. Players had to dig deep to find the energy to keep going.

It was heavy going and the whole squad played with pride.

Maidenhead 5 Windsor 5

Notes on the day

LD Basson playing as full back demonstrated his kicking skills, with a superb catch from a high kick, chip the ball over the opposition and chased the ball in for the try of the day.

Josh Edney (Hooker), Markus Olivier (Tight head prop) made some great runs against some strong forwards. Jonathon Perry made some great runs.

Maidenhead B’s shared the plate with Windsor B’s and all the squad received medals. Graciously we allowed Windsor to have the Plate until Xmas.

The whole squad played as a team and left the tournament carrying various injuries ranging from twisted ankles to bruised ribs and a headache!

Marlow were great hosts and had arranged for Buckinghamshire referee’s to over see the games. This allowed for coaches to concentrate on their team and was a nice touch.

Thanks go to Lee Carn, Paul Thomas and Dave Perry for helping with the coaching

A great day in the Sun
