A Team Results Maids v Buckingham Maids first game of the day was against Buckingham and within seconds had the Buckingham team on the back foot with a searing run by Jonny Garius who secured the first try of the day. Maids forwards were dominant in this game and maintained possession for most of the game allowing Fly Half George Dutton and centre Matt Balmer to secure further tries for Maids. Maids win 3 tries to 0. Maids v Cleve The second game for Maids was a much tougher encounter against old rivals Cleve. On two previous clashes the two squads were evenly matched and Maids wanted to take some points from this game. The first half was evenly matched with Jonny Garius securing Maids try and Cleve equalling the balance. The second half found Maids immediately on the back foot with a determined Cleve pack forcing Maids into a defensive position. Cleve took the lead and Maids clawed back to equal the tie at 2 tries apiece. However in a hotly disputed period of 5 minutes extra time Maids finally succumbed to Cleve pressure and conceded a try in the last second of the game. Maids lost 2 tries to 3 Maids v Henley Henley came to Maidenhead with an impressive reputation having trounced Windsor in their recent encounter. However Maids Centre Matt Balmer took up the challenge with a passionate run against the Henley defence to take Maids into half time 1 try up. The second half saw Henley bounce back with determination. Maids were found lacking in defence and paid the price and conceded a weak try on the back of a penalty. Despite a gutsy performance from all of the Maids squad they eventually went down in this challenge to yet another late Henley try and lost this very close game. Maids lost 1 try to 2 Maids v Winchester Maids entered this game with their pride at stake. They’d lost two games back to back and were determined to end their tournament on a high. Winchester had performed will in their earlier encounters with Cleve and Henley and this promised to be a challenging game. Matt Balmer quickly took the initiative and secured Maids first try, quickly followed by another from Jonny Garius to take give Maids a 2 – 1 lead in the first half. Although the second half saw some great displays of rugby from the Maids squad they only managed to get one more try from Lewis Kiddell following some concerted pressure from the forwards.
