(IC) , giving Maids possession, the ball passed out to
Alex Hanks (OC) who drove forward, on being tackled he
passed out to Guy Swadling who drove further forward but

break down to the three quarter line but despite a
sterling tackle by Rick Blacker (RW), Llandaff kept

some great runs by Ryan Sherwin ( Prop) William Page (H)
to create opportunities for Oliver Woodward ( LW ) but
Llandaff drove them back and the Maids had to keep up
their defence to stop them from reaching their try line,
but just before the final whistle Llandaff made a
surprise break from a scrum-down and the scrum half
evaded Maids defence and scored for a second time.
Game Two:
Maidenhead v Keynsham
The second game against Keynsham, enabled Maidenhead to
make a good start, coming straight in on the attack, Sam
Alderson ran forward, was tackled, he passed out to Mark
Lucas (FH) who passed it out to Rick Blacker (RW), he was
pushed offside. Keynsham went onto win the line out and
kicked the ball back down the pitch, the Maids managed to
quickly regain possession and George Colborn drove
forward. From the scrum Keynsham kicked the ball back
down again but Guy Swadling caught it and ran forward.
From a free pass the Maids moved the ball down the line
to Rick who drove forward to the line but Keynsham were
defending well and moved the ball back down to their try
line and after several attempts to score Keynsham broke

game with Keynsham scoring just before the final whistle.
Game Three :
Maidenhead v St Albans
St Albans (Wales) were Maids third game opposition ,
having previously beaten Keynsham 30 - 0 in their first
game. Maids played a different game altogether and both
sets of supporters and Coaches were entertained with some
excellent team play between forwards and backs. There
were some tense minutes to start with when St Albans
nearly scored and Maidenhead defended extremely well
getting their first break when Paul Roberts (FH) got
possession from Jamie Ford (SH) and kicked the ball well
down the pitch, Maidenhead gave chase and narrowly missed
an opportunity to score leaving the score 0-0 at half
time. Maidenhead went in on the attack in the second half
through strong forward play led by Guy Sears ( SR) ,
George Colborn got possession and took the ball forward
passing it out to Oliver Woodward ( LW), on being tackled
he passed it back to Angus Caddon (OC) who went forward,
St Albans got possession again but Maidenhead got seized
with fire and succeeded in breaking through and Guy
Swadling (FB) got the team a well deserved try, which was
then converted by Jamie Ford bringing them a much needed
7-0 win against strong opposition.
Game Four :
Maidenhead v Cleeve
The Maids then went into the fourth game against home
team , Cleeve with a much more positive frame of mind and
were undeterred when Cleeve broke through their defence
and scored an early try, which was then converted. Cleeve
went on to attack with zeal driving forward and with an
excellent tackles from Toby Harrison and Christian
Shepherd who defended well and managed to keep up the
pressure to stop Cleeve from scoring, Guy Sears mauled
well to gain valuable possession and passed to Guy
Swadling who kicked the ball down the pitch and from a
penalty pass Oliver Woodward ran forward passed to Alex
Hanks who scored in the right hand corner , with Ford
Converting. Cleeve fought back but William Page smuggled
possession passed to Ryan Sherwin (Prop) who saw a break
in the defence and ran forward but Cleeve defended their
line and got possession and managed to score for a second
time but failed to convert. The Maids got possession
again and drove Cleeve back and their perseverance paid
off when Oliver Woodward made a dash for the line, was
tackled, the Maids moved the ball down the line and Alex
Hanks succeeded in scoring for the second time followed
by an excellent conversion from Jamie Ford giving the
Maids the game ( 14 -12 )
Fifth Game :
Maidenhead v Bridgend
Maids met Bridgend (Wales) in their fifth and final game
who were joint leaders in the tournament. The Maids
responded to the challenge extremely well and worked hard
to stop them from scoring throughout the first half but
although Bridgend had the edge they had to work hard to
score twice to win the game. It was a well fought
tournament with tough opposition from which Maidenhead
did well to finish third and were rewarded with the fair
play award which Captain for the day Guy Sears collected
on behalf of the squad. The rain may have fallen but it
did not dampen Maids spirit against tough competition
from the Wales and West Country.
