U10s beat Chinnor .. and All Blacks

Sunday 26th October 2003

Maidenhead U10s, perhaps inspired by a training session at Harlequins and a tour of Twickenham on the Saturday, took two strong squads to a triangular fixture at Chinnor on Sunday. World Cup fever had rubbed off and the anticipation of playing the All Blacks caused great excitement. These, however, were the Gosford All Blacks from Oxfordshire rather than the Kiwi version, but the Tigers and Stags will be hoping their performances inspire England down under, as the Tigers won with 7 unanswered tries and the Stags by 2 to 0.

Tigers scorers were Leo Smith, Michael "Bulldozer" Trevena, Huw "Mad dog" Kmiot (2) and Daniel Andrews-Jones with a hat-trick.

For the Stags, tries came from Josh Spooner and Dominik Bart.Against Chinnor the Stags had a tough first half, despite some ferocious tackling by Jason Higgins, but put up a much closer fight in the 2nd half and should be proud of themselves.

The Tigers followed up their earlier win with a 4 tries to 2 victory against the Chinnor side in a close, physical game. Tries came from strong man Josh Edney, a 3rd of the day for Huw Kmiot, Luke Thomas and Chris Dow, who did superbly to take an unexpected 'through the legs' pass from Edney!
