| With a depleted squad, Maidenhead
U10 B squad achieved outstanding results at the Abbey
Rugby Club Mini Challenge Competition on Sunday. With a
makeshift front row lead by Phillip Roberts and supported
by Riku Tsujiyama, Rowan Burnett and Greg Manning and
supported by superb running from the backs the team
secured a 4 tries to 2 victory over a fancied
Reading side. Tries from Rory Harte (3) and Gordon
Harris(1) ensured that the hard driving of the forwards
and superb passing from scrum half Chris Cameron paid
dividends.Outstanding tackling from Conor Haynes , Tom
Pettigrew, Matt Fry ensured that the second half pressure
from Reading came to nothing In the second game Readingensians fielded a big forward line but this did not deter Maidenhead. Yet again the superb driving from the forwards and running from the backs quickly paid off with Maidenhead taking an early lead with tries from Harte and Harris. Continous pressure from the forwards and superb running from Roberts, Haynes, Harte and Harris resulted in tries for Tsujiyama , Cameron, Harte (2) and man of the match Harris finished off a 7 - 1 victory for Maidenhead In the final and deciding game in the group against the hosts Abbey, Maidenhead played some outstanding rugby with the hard work of the forwards and some quick ball from Cameron setting up tries for Haynes and Harris. Whilst Abbey pressured, some great defending and driving from Maidenhead opened up the Abbey defence for Haynes to captialise on a great run from Harte to score his second try of the game and Harris followed over soon after with his second try of the game. A try saving tackle from man of the match Haynes prevented Abbey from scoring in the dying moments of the game. The quality of the rugby and team spirit demonstrated is a credit to the coach on the day Ian Cameron but also to the coaching team who have worked hard all year with the boys. |
