Abbey crushed by Maids U10s

Sunday 12th December 2004

Maids prolific Under 10’s squads returned to their winning ways at Braywick last Sunday with the A & B teams providing a great display of rugby with back to back wins against local rivals Abbey (Reading).

First up were the A team, keen to avenge last weeks defeat to Marlow. Wing Jonny Garius returning from injury was in devastating form and began running the Abbey squad ragged. However despite relentless pressure and the game being played almost entirely in the Abbey half, Maids couldn’t break down their dogged defence.

The second half saw Maids continue to dominate the scrum and line out, allowing the ball to flow easily out to the wings where Garius continued to menace until eventually he broke away from the Abbey defence to score a superb individual try. The scoreline didn't reflect the balance of play and Maids should have won the game by 30 points.

Maids B’s also had some scores to settle and were determined not to be overshadowed by the A team. Abbey had a strong front row and were determined to break through the Maids defence. Prop Kerins however was having none of it and broke away to score his first of three great tries. Outside Centre Ruairi Evans was also in superb form to help set up Kerins with his third try. Abbey fought back with two late tries but these were merely consolation tries and Abbey were totally outclassed by Maids
