U10s crowned Windsor

Windsor U10s v Maidenhead U10s

Sunday 6th February 2000

The Maidenhead Lions displayed some of their best rugby of the season when they joined Windsor for a joint training session and match this Sunday. The Lions attacked from the beginning with some skilful tackles from Ryan Sherwin. Luke Fletcher drove over to score quickly followed by another from Ross Pepper who ran twenty yards scoring on the right. Jonathan Lowther determinedly fought through Windsor's defence to bring the score to 15-0 at half time. In the second half Oliver Woodward came from the left wing and ran from the centre line fighting off many challenges to stop him. The Lions continued to take all the opportunities open to them to break through with further tries from Jamie Ford ending with slick passing down the line to Alex Hanks to end 30 -0. The Lions went into the second game full of enthusiasm playing tremendous team rugby, Toby Harrison kept up the defence superbly keeping the ball in Windsor's half and Paul Roberts made sure the ball moved quickly out to the wing ably supported by Sam Aldridge. The final score was another win to Maidenhead at 35- 0 was well deserved. Lowther, Pepper and Hanks all contributing to the scoreline, reflecting good all-round team play.

The Maidenhead Tigers also enjoyed an exciting game against Windsor in which they too showed adept passing and despite George Colborn making several attempts to drive the ball forward and passing out to William Brennan on the wing failed to score. The Tigers were stronger in the second half but Windsor maintained their defence resulting in a win to them of 10 -0. In the second game however the Tigers played brilliantly and George Colborn scored a well-deserved try. Christian Shepherd tackled hard and he ripped the ball out to pass down the line to Jason Merritt and onto Mark Lucas setting a try up for William Brennan on the wing to score. Toby Courtney was a persistent tackler and with Stuart McGilway maintained the Tigers defence and drove the ball forward for Gareth Cotter-Stone to score. Jo Dutton a strong team player was able to take the opportunity to break through to score the final try bringing the total to 20- 0. Great play by all the boys proved Maidenhead have two very strong teams able to rise to the challenge of most teams.
