Buenos Aires Cricket & Rugby Club

Maids welcome a party of 70 tourists from the Buenos Aires Cricket & Rugby Club this weekend. BACRC gave our U16s a fantastic reception on their tour to South America in 2010 and the current Colts are delighted to be able to reciprocate this weekend. The tourists will hopefully be supporting the 1st XV vocally on Saturday afternoon before enjoying the club’s hospitality on Saturday night and playing 3 games on the Sunday against the Under 17s and the 2 Colts squads.

Please make them very welcome and come down and support the Maids' sides on Sunday

'An Evening With' hosted by Alan Black

'An Evening With' which will be hosted by Alan Black in the Bucks New Uni Students Union in High Wycombe on 30th January from 19:00 - 22:00.

The night includes special guests Hugo Southwell (London Wasps and Scotland), Dick Best (Former England manager and British and Irish Lions), and we have also recently confirmed a third guest from Harlequins.

The night will consist of drinks and refreshments followed by a Q&A by Alan Black to all three guests then a short break before questions may be asked by members of the audience.

The evening is in aid of Wheelpower, a charity that aims at transforming lives through sport. On the night there will be donation boxes and raffle tickets where all proceeds go to Wheelpower. Please see Wheelpowers website for more information.

Only 150 seated tickets are available for this event, and with it being so close to the England v Scotland 6 Nations match it promises to be an exciting evening. All tickets can be purchased online at the Bucks website.

The event has its own Facebook and Twitter pages where anyone interested can find all the information necessary, and also post any questions they have about the event.

The deadline is Wednesday 23rd November 2011 so jerseys can be available in time for the Anniversary match in February.

Wooden Spoon Annual Lottery

As one of our nominated charities MRFC are selling tickets for the Wooden Spoon Annual Lottery. Tickets have been provided to all playing sections of the club and are also available behind the bar and food counter. The cost of a ticket is £1 with the draw taking place on 12 December 2011.

The 1st prize will be a new car with a long list of other outstanding prizes.

As part of out mutual co-operation on local projects Wooden Spoon has agreed for MRFC to retain part of the proceeds. These funds will be ring-fenced to assist members of the club's thriving Youth section who find it difficult to meet their membership fee. By working in this way we are looking to give them support which would have otherwise been unobtainable.

As an added bonus all sold tickets will initially be entered into an internal club raffle to be made on Sunday 27th November 2011. The prize will be a playing shirt signed by London Wasps! All sold tickets will then be put forward to the Spoon's Annual Lottery draw.

Please ensure all tickets (where sold or not) and monies are left with Jean Kingsley by noon, Sunday 27th November 2011.

Maidenhead Ladies selected for Berkshire

An impressive nine players from Maidenhead Ladies were selected for the Berkshire Women's Rugby squad in trials held at Wellington College last Sunday.
Forwards Becky Evans, Jenny Worth, Ailsa Harris, Meghan Whalley, Frankie Diplock, as well as backs Louise Walker, Grace Shaw, Emma Lecount and Jade O'Neill made the selection.
The Maids' contingent makes up a large part of the group, which is also bolstered by players from Bracknell, Reading and Newbury. It is a notable achievement from the Braywick ladies, especially as only Walker and Worth had played rugby before last season.
This season sees a reinvigorated county and divisional programme in women's rugby in England, in an RFU initiative to identify and develop talented female players in the junior and senior game.
The first Berkshire Women's game is against Gloucestershire on Sunday 16th October.
Also two Maidenhead girls were selected in the Under 18 Berkshire Girls Development squad. Bethany Worth and Roisin Molloy, also earned their places at the Wellington trials.

Rick Wheddon

I am very sad to report that Rick Wheddon, a dear friend and longstanding playing member, supporter and sponsor of the Club, sadly lost his battle against cancer last week at the age of 46. Rick fought the disease for over three years with the same immense courage, tenacity, and humour he approached all things in his life, including rugby. For this he will always be fondly remembered and sadly missed by all here at Maidenhead Rugby Club.
Rick's funeral will be held at St Edmund Campion Church on Thursday 29th September at midday, followed by a wake at Maidenhead Rugby Club.
Rick's wife Jane has extended an open invitation to join her and the rest of their family and friends on Thursday and help celebrate Rick's life. The family will be putting together a "memory box" and have invited everyone to contribute with photo's, stories or anecdotes about Rick, which the family can look over now and in years to come. I have been told that this can include anything that you loved about Rick, including some of the more humorous or colourful events we may of shared with him!
Jane has also requested that instead of buying flowers, she would rather people made donations to 2 charities that were close to Rick's heart and are dedicated to helping not only improve the care and treatment for Cancer sufferers but more importantly to living strong with cancer and making the most of the rest of your life. Details of these will be included on the order of service on Thursday.
Obviously, our thoughts, best wishes and deepest condolences go to Jane and her three children, Beth, Will and Robert and the whole of Rick's family.
For those who wish to send Jane and the family a card, her address is School Cottage, Henley Road, Maidenhead, Berkshire, SL6 6QW.
